Meetings

These images are drawn from a journal entry made during Cecile Elstein’s Mandarah II Bursary Scheme (1984–85). They reflect a moment of quiet observation: three women in conversation, seen at different times throughout a single day. As the artist passed by in the morning, at noon, and again in the evening, the women remained, still talking, still together. What changed was the light. The sun’s movement across the sky altered how they appeared, casting new shadows, shifting tones, and subtly transforming the scene. This sequence of images captures not just the women, but also the passage of time and the communion between people and the natural world.
